A3 Adaptor

User Guide and Support

Similar to many contemporary musicians, YouTubers, and broadcasters, you likely depend on the high-quality sound produced by a stereo condenser microphone. However, it’s essential to note that these microphones typically necessitate phantom power.

The A3 Adapter is a compact dual-channel device that fits in your pocket. It enables you to effortlessly use the Soundman OKM microphone or other stereo condenser microphones to capture incredible analog audio signals with your voice recorder or camera. Soundman OKM microphones, along with most condenser microphones, need DC power to operate, and the A3 Adapter is designed to provide this required power.

Features

  • True phantom power microphone Adapter

  • Compact size for easy portability in bags or pockets

  • Enhanced functionality with record level control

  • Designed for voice recording equipment or cameras

  • Line-in input for microphones

  • 3.5mm TRS output jack

  • Adjustable record level control

  • 20 Hz to 50 kHz frequency response

  • Cost-effective power supply using a single 4LR44 6V battery

  • Power LED Indicator

For Recording Equipment Without Power Supply

This Adapter is an excellent choice if your recorder doesn’t provide plug-in power. Connecting the A3 adapter to the line-in of such recording equipment will yield the best results.

For Recording Equipment With Power Supply

Even if your portable recorder provides plug-in power, connecting it to the A3 Adapter, which operates at a higher 6V voltage, can help capture higher sound pressure, reduce distortion at high volumes, and positively influence the overall sound and level.

Advantagous of Using A3 Adapter

A3 Adapter provides automatic level adaption, high microphone supply voltage, very low noise floor, and offers a significant increase in dynamic range compared to conventional direct connection of the microphone to the microphone jack. When recording faint sounds, the combination of OKM microphone or condenser microphones with A3 may yield the best results.

Nevertheless, it’s important to note that the inherent noise from the limited area of the microphone membrane may become audible. Exercise caution to prevent preamp clipping, which can occur if the record level control is set too low.

Operation

The A3 Adapter should be connected between the microphone and the recording equipment. It’s crucial to disconnect the microphone plug from the A3 Adapter after use. Plugging in the microphone activates the Adapter, using electricity and draining the 6V battery.

Switch 1 (symbol “Γ”): Low-Frequency Roll-Off The “Γ” switch position is selected for recording speech or music with excessive bass; frequencies below 300 Hz are attenuated. The “-” switch position is chosen for recording music.

Switch 2 (symbol “0/-20 dB”): Linear Attenuation The “20 dB” switch position is used for recording high sound pressure levels to prevent clipping. For moderate levels, especially with the A3 Adapter on the Line-in input, the “0” switch position is recommended.
