OKM Stereo Headset Microphone

User Guide and Support

The OKM microphone is an omnidirectional stereo electret condenser microphone that requires phantom power for optimal performance. The Soundman A3 Adapter is a perfect match for OKM microphones.

Binaural stereo microphone headsets represent the new generation of microphones, taking recent developments in the recorder and mobile phone markets into account. Soundman binaural microphones cover a wide range of applications.

Advantages of OKM Microphone:

  • Enables music recordings with outstanding spatial characteristics

  • Particularly suitable for live music recording

  • Can be utilized as a boundary layer microphone and as a lavalier or clip-on microphone

  • Applicable for Line-in inputs

  • Ideal for film scoring in 3D sound

  • Perfect for ASMR recording

Use as a clip-on microphone

When wearing the original head microphone as a clip-on microphone, such as on the lapel, it’s essential to secure it firmly to prevent any noise caused by friction. Using it as a clip-on microphone or as a boundary microphone is recommended for recording music as well as capturing discussions, interviews, lectures, and similar scenarios.

Use as an original head microphone

To capture original head recordings, place the microphone capsules in your ears with the colored surfaces facing outward (red for the right ear, blue for the left ear.

How to Use

By placing the microphones in the ears, recordings are produced that align with the user’s subjective sound impression. When these recordings are played back through headphones, a three-dimensional sound impression with exceptional spatial location is achieved. This setup is particularly well-suited for use as an original head microphone in live music or film recordings. The microphone capsules are embedded in sound-permeable foam, allowing undisturbed listening impressions during recording. Wearing the microphones in the ears also offers the advantage of keeping the user’s hands free for other activities, such as operating a camera.

Use with A3 Adapter

A3 Adapter is recommended at some distance from the stage. Almost all portable devices have a plug-in power supply. This power supply ensures that the OKM microphones also function without the A3 power adapter (Solo versions). However, using the A3 provides several advantages in line with the recommended uses in the matrix, such as higher level stability, increased sensitivity, and the ability to connect to line-in inputs.

The PPA adapter or A3-XLR is alternatively available for connecting to studio mixers and portable recorders with XLR microphone inputs.
